Tara R. Burd

Tara R. Burd, as a Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust & Probate Law by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization, brings extensive probate and trust litigation experience, with a specific emphasis on complex trust litigation, probate avoidance estate planning, probate administration, and professional liability defense. She regularly practices in both civil court and probate court, and is familiar with the procedures and processes of each.

Throughout her career, Ms. Burd has handled a wide variety of matters including Marvin actions, community property disputes, employment disputes, property disputes, anti-trust matter, mass torts civil rights cases, and breach of contract matters, in state, federal, and out-of-state courts. This diversity of experience contributes to her ability to handle complex and multi-forum matters, and to advise trustees in multi-faceted administrations or disputes. She is also able to craft strategies for clients to reduce or eliminate the risk of litigation through creative and proactive solutions.

10.0Tara Renee Burd

Ms. Burd is active in the community as a Representative on the Board of the California Lawyers Association (CLA), nominated by the Real Property Law Section after serving as it’s Co-Chair.  Within CLA, she also serves on the Health and Wellness, and Membership Committees, and led the CLA’s Online Research and Publication Services Committee, testing and demonstrating cloud-based products to be offered as a member benefit. In 2018, she was appointed to serve on The State Bar of California’s Access Through Innovation of Legal Services (ATILS) Task Force, which is tasked with reevaluating rule and laws applicable to the practice of law for the purpose of increasing access to justice through the use of technology and innovation.

Locally, Ms. Burd serves as a Past President of the Irish-American Bar Association and is involved in the Association of Business Trial Lawyers, Lawyers Club of San Diego, Probate Attorneys of San Diego, and the San Diego County Bar Association. She has also served as a volunteer judge of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade from 2016 through 2019, and volunteer judge for the Miss Colleen Pageant in 2018.

Ms. Burd is the recipient of the AV®-Preeminent™ peer review rating by Martindale-Hubbell. In 2017, she was first selected by Super Lawyers® as a Rising Star and has continued to earn that recognition every year since. In 2018, Ms. Burd was named a recipient of the Reisman Award by Clio.

Ms. Burd received her Juris Doctor from California Western School of Law, cum laude with Honors Distinction in Criminal Prosecution and Defense Practice. In law school, she received the Trustees Scholarship and was a member of the Pro Bono Honors Society.
